The nel Story
Founded in 2021 Nel Constructions is the product of two distinct yet complementary 30+ year career paths. It is the fusion of Tyson’s hands-on building expertise and Rhys’s background in commercial project management. Together, they have built a company that seamlessly blends craftsmanship with efficiency, ensuring a smooth and high-quality construction process from start to finish.
TYSON MCDUFF
Tyson’s journey began early, starting his apprenticeship at a young age and quickly developing a deep passion for the craft of building. With over 20 years of expertise in the construction industry, he has been operating as a licensed builder since 2018. As a licensed builder, he founded Fin Design + Construct, a business focused on high-quality custom homes. Over the years, Tyson built a reputation for his meticulous approach, leading teams on job sites, and ensuring every element of a build was executed to the highest standard. However, as Fin Design + Construct grew, he found himself increasingly consumed by the administrative side of the business, taking him away from what he loved most, being hands-on and leading his team in the field.
TYSON MCDUFF
Rhys built a successful career in commercial project management and large-scale construction in Sydney. He became a qualified builder through the university pathway in 2022. With a strong background in client service, project coordination, and project management, he excelled at overseeing complex projects and ensuring seamless communication between stakeholders. After years in Sydney and Newcastle's fast-paced commercial construction industry, Rhys sought to transition into residential building, where he could apply his expertise to more personalised, high-quality projects.
RHYS MAYBURY
One afternoon, parked up at Shoal Bay Foreshore for an afternoon with friends, Tyson and Rhys found themselves deep in conversation about the state of the building industry. They knew they could do better. Seeing an opportunity to combine their strengths, they set out to create a construction company that prioritised craftsmanship, service, and attention to detail. And so, Nel Constructions was born. With Tyson leading the job sites, bringing hands-on experience, expert craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to quality and Rhys managing client coordination, project planning, and operations, their partnership was built on balance, expertise, and a shared vision to raise industry standards.
Today, Nel Constructions is a low-volume, high-quality construction company specialising in custom homes and high-end renovations across Port Stephens, Newcastle, and Nelson Bay. By taking on a limited number of projects at a time, we ensure that each build receives the attention, precision, and high standards it deserves. With a full-time dedicated team on every site from start to finish, our commitment to open communication, collaboration, and exceptional workmanship ensures every project not only meets but exceeds expectations.
